1 Timothy 2:5
5 For there is one God and mediator between God and man, Christ Jesus.

Reflection: Question #18
Written By: Pastor Jesse Caro

Question: Who is humanity’s redeemer?
Answer: It is the Lord Jesus Christ. He, being the eternal Son of God, became man. He was, and continues to be, God and man in two distinct natures but one person forever.

On the heels of Thursday’s question (“what state is humanity in”) and answer (“under the wrath and curse of God”), I am delighted to write now about Christ. The Redeemer! The Savior of the world! Christ is the bridge and mediator between man and God. Our sin in Adam, though catastrophic and devastating, has not left humanity without hope. Though the chasm is wide and impossible to navigate, God has made a way. God has offered his Son, Jesus, to die in our place, to do what we could not do, in order to end the hostility he has with mankind. We, in Christ, are no longer at odds with God. We are no longer enemies. We no longer have sin and death as the only option. We can be saved!

There is an old hymn (“Living for Jesus”) that I love. I am reminded of it today. Verse 2 says:

Living for Jesus who died in my place,
Bearing on Calv’ry my sin and disgrace;
Such love constrains me to answer His call,
Follow His leading and give Him my all.

The chorus follows:

O Jesus, Lord and Savior,
I give myself to Thee,
For Thou, in Thy atonement
Didst give Thyself for me;
I own no other Master,
My heart shall be Thy throne,
My life I give, henceforth to live,
O Christ, for Thee alone.

What a great lyric! “I own no other master!” Wow, I want to be able sing that with the clearest of conscience that God is the pinnacle desire of my heart, and I live for him alone! After all, he redeemed me!

Prayer
Lord, may we remember that you died in our place, and commit ourselves to you all the more for the sacrifice you freely paid for us.
