Deuteronomy 10:14
14 To the Lord your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it.
Reflection: Roots to Fruit Friday: “Everything In It”
Written By: Pastor Jesse Caro
I grew up in a Christian home in which my dad modeled godly character. I am very grateful for my Christian parents. I often think of what legacy I will leave behind to my own children, because my parents have taught me so much. One thing I remember about my dad, from childhood, is my dad’s faithfulness to give. I have memories of being, I would say, four years old, and seeing my dad place his tithe in the plate offering. I grew up seeing this, week in and week out. Dad was always faithful… and he remains so to this day (thank God). This is such a wonderful memory for me! [as a side note, parents who are reading, you might consider occasionally not giving online such that your children see your faith play out in front of them. Just a thought!]
I love Moses in Deuteronomy proclaiming the most essential truth about giving: God owns everything. “To God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth…” Now, that pretty much covers it all, does it not? But Moses adds (as if to put an explanation point and remove all doubt as to what God owns) “and everything in it.” I smile when I read it: “He owns the heaven and the earth… oh, and in the event you don’t understand the point: he owns everything.” We are charged with stewarding those things he has entrusted to our care, but it is all His. Period. So, when you commit to give to the Lord, remember that, ultimately, all the heavens and earth, and all contained therein is His
Prayer
Lord, may we be reminded that you own it all, and we can trust you to care for the possessions you have entrusted to us.
