GO FOR THE GOLD
The 2008 Summer Olympics will be held this month in Beijing, China. Athletes from all over the world will come to compete for a gold medal that will be placed around their neck and they will receive their moment of fame and glory and then return home and display the medal on a shelf in their home or office somewhere. That’s a lot of work for a shiny piece of metal. But in life, you and I are competing to receive a prize that will last forever. We are running a race that has eternal consequences. What will it take to cross the finish line and receive the prize God wants to reward us with?

AUG 3 "Running the Race
Hebrews 12:1
If we are going to run the race of life that God has set before us and cross the finish line, we will need to remember the witnesses, remove any hindrances, and run w/ perseverance.
AUG 10 The Perfect Runner
Hebrews 12:2-4
If we are going to run the race of life that God has set before us and cross the finish line, we will need to model our race after the world’s only perfect runner, Jesus Christ. How did He run race? How can I run like Him? We need to make Him the first and last thought of our day and focus on Him throughout the day.
AUG 17 Divine Discipline
Hebrews 12:5-11
If we are going to run the race of life that God has set before us and cross the finish line, we will need to accept the fact that the race course is not always level and hazard free. We will need to submit ourselves to God’s divine discipline about something that’s not right in our lives.
AUG 24 Spiritual Rehab
Hebrews 12:12,13
If we are going to run the race of life that God has set before us and cross the finish line, we will need to realize that there will be times when we stumble and fall during the race and injuries will result. We will need to identify those injuries and set up a program of rehab for ourselves.
AUG 31 Nothing to Criticize
Daniel 6:1-14
On Labor Day weekend we are going to talk about what it means to be a Christ follower at work. To do this, we are going to look at the example Daniel set for us. When he was promoted his fellow employees attempted to find some fault in the way Daniel was conducting himself on the job, but they couldn’t fine one thing to criticize. He was faithful, honest, and always responsible. The only area they could attack him in was his relationship w/ God. And when he was attacked for his faith, he did not waver.
